Ripasso Energy was founded in 2008 by Gunnar Larsson, the former CEO of Kockums AB. For several decades, Kockums had been the main developer of the Stirling engine technology, for use in military submarines. At the founding of Ripasso Energy, an exclusive licence from Kockums AB was obtained, enabling us to continue their work, developing our own knowledge base regarding the Stirling technology. In 2012, a test facility was commissioned in the Kalahari desert of South Africa and in November the same year, a world leading efficiency of 32% in solar-to-grid quality energy conversion was demonstrated. The following year, we began developing a unique hybrid adaptation that complements the solar radiation at times when it is not available. This means that the system provides an available, demand-controlled supply of energy. During hours of darkness and cloud, the Ripasso Stirling hybrid is able to harness a wide range of fuels, such as biogas, ethanol or practically any other liquid or gaseous fuels. In 2017 Ripasso Energy introduced PWR BLOK to the market, a container based solution with Ripasso’s Stirling engines, enabling industrial off gas to effectively be converted into electricity at a record low LCOE (Levelized Cost Of Electricity) of $21.7/MWh.
